It is our great pleasure to introduce you to Black Cab’s Altamont Redux live band playing a one-off show at Howler on Thursday Dec 5th, almost 50 years to the date of the ‘Stones free concert at Altamont Speedway…
On the drums we have Mat Watson. Mat will be familiar to many of you as the beating heart of the mighty Taipan Tiger Girls. As a solo performer/composer he is also the brains behind the enigmatic Other Places. When not on stage he can be found selflessly sharing his considerable knowledge of vintage synths and their many quirks to users at MESS (Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio) in North Melbourne.
On the electric bass we are re-joined by Evan Tweedie. Admired for providing the sub-sonic bed for the likes of Angus and Julia Stone and Dub FX, Evan brings a heavy funk to the Cab we have become very addicted to. Thanks Evan.
On lead vocals and shakers, Andrew Coates will be putting the laptop to sleep and stepping up to the mic to reawaken the inner Rock God within.
On the synthesiser we welcome back to the fold our friend Steve Law. A pioneer of the electronic music scene in Melbourne and winner of the inaugural ABC Classic FM computer music award in 1996, he has been creating cutting edge and progressive music under his own Zen Paradox pseudonym for… a long time. His rich sonic textures were an integral element in the original Altamont Diary live performances; with Steve on board, our journey into the Heart of Darkness will be very dark indeed.
And on guitar we have (drum roll please) James Lee. That’s right. After much head-scratching, chin-stroking and a couple of drinks, James has been enticed to dust off the six-string and beam himself back to the future. You might see a foot upon the fold-back wedge folks!
And last-but-not-least…
Also on guitar we welcome Matt Walker. Matt is an ARIA award-nominated singer/songwriter who is currently busy fronting this universe’s best cosmic country ensemble The Lost Ragas. Matt’s played with pretty much everyone and we’re honoured to have him join us.
The night will also feature an immersive multi-screen visual experience courtesy of our video and lights consigliere Andrew Delaney to help take us deeper into the black heart of Altamont…
We’re absolutely thrilled to be able to bring this dream team together for what will undoubtedly be A THING.
